Opening Day Preview?

With the exception of the designated hitter and the 9th spot, today’s lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals looks very much like what Mike Matheny may write down on the scorecard for Opening Day…

Matt Carpenter, 3B

Kolten Wong, 2B

Matt Holliday, DH

Allen Craig, RF

Yadier Molina, C

Jhonny Peralta, SS

Matt Adams, 1B

Peter Bourjos, CF

Stephen Piscotty, LF

Carlos Martinez will be making his fourth start of the season and has allowed just two runs on six hits in 10 innings pitched this spring.

In the bullpen, Randy Choate, Sam Freeman, Seth Maness, Keith Butler, and Jorge Rondon will be available. Pat Neshek is scheduled to return–his first availability since leaving Thursday for the birth of his son.

–After an 0-10 start, Kolten Wong is now leading the Grapefruit League in batting with a .394 average (13-33). Stephen Piscotty ranks seventh with a .615 slugging percentage while Xavier Scruggs has a .455 on-base percentage–good for fourth.
