The St. Louis Cardinals have announced first baseman Matt Adams has been activated from the disabled list and will be available for tonight’s series opener against the Washington Nationals. To make room on the active roster, Oscar Taveras has been optioned to Memphis (AAA).
General Manager John Mozeliak explained the move as necessary to get Taveras regular playing time–which could also be the situation with Randal Grichuk in the next couple of weeks.
Adams finished a four-game rehab assignment with Memphis last night, hitting a combined .200 (3-15) with two runs batted in during the stretch.
Taveras started right field in ten of eleven games he appeared in since his debut on May 31st. He hit .189 (7-37) with a home run and two runs driven in.
